An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a breastfeeding expert, with extensive education and clinical training to help parents feed their babies. If you're a new parent or an experienced one, an IBCLC will work with you to develop an individual care plan to help you reach the goals that are right for your family.
Your right to breastfeed your baby is protected by New York State Law, including feeding your baby in public, and you also have the right to express milk for your baby while in the workplace.
NYLCA's listed providers are members in good standing offering home- and office-based services in the New York metro area. We strive for accountability by setting standards for providers who are listed on our website. This includes a Bill of Rights and Responsibilities for Clients.
The Surgeon General's Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding has acknowledged that "International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are the only health care professionals certified in lactation care. They have specific clinical expertise and training in the clinical management of complex problems with lactation." No one can call themselves by the trademarked term "Registered Lactation Consultant" without meeting the rigorous criteria of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
