Information About Breastfeeding groups

Breastfeeding groups are useful for building confidence, overcoming mild to moderate problems and as follow up after private consultations. The groups listed on this website are facilitated by members of the New York Lactation Consultant Association (NYLCA) who are members in good standing.

We have verified that all the Full Members (as denoted by the initials IBCLC, RLC after their names) were registered as board certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners as of August 2017.

Peer counselors such as La Leche League Leaders (LLLL) and WIC peer counselors have been shown to be very helpful for breastfeeding. So we also list peer support groups facilitated by Affiliate (non-IBCLC) Members on our website provided they have appropriate training. "The Landscape of Breastfeeding Support" describes further details about various types of breastfeeding credentials.

Since we have so many groups available, you can narrow your selection by the location of the group by borough or county, and/or the type of group as described below. Click on the name of the group for details about registration, the cost of the group, frequency and dates of meetings, and in some instances age group restrictions. You may verify the information using the contact information for the facilitator, particularly if the group falls on a holiday.
